Can a toy replace your Antidepressant

We’ve already been declared a Prozac nation. Depression, according to the limited findings research has yielded, is caused by not enough of some chemicals being produced in the brain, or way too many of others overwhelming the nervous system, causing a person to become depressed.

While sex toys probably can’t cure real cases of clinical depression, some people take antidepressants due to a misdiagnosis of depression. In these cases, it’s entirely possible that frequent masturbation could actually be used as a replacement for antidepressants. I can hear the nay-sayers now, and while this isn’t scientific, it actually makes good common sense.

When we orgasm, the brain releases endorphins that flood the body with an incredible sense of well being that the brain reads as intense pleasure. That’s why we have sex, isn’t it? Because it feels good! But that good feeling isn’t purely physical, as some undesirable one-night stands might have you believe. It’s mental and internal, and assuming there are no negative associations with the act, you can ride the high a great orgasm gives you all day long. Plus, contrary to what those same one-night stands might tell you, you don’t need anyone else to make you feel great.

Not everyone has easy access to a willing, negative-emotion free partner, and that’s fine – that’s where adult toys come in! With your favorite vibrator, dildo, or fleshlight, you can actually masturbate your way to good mental health. Just schedule some time in your day – early morning, late night, or afternoon delight – and make sure you set the mood appropriately. Draw yourself a bath and light some candles, or relax in front of a favorite movie and try to clear your mind of all the stress and unhappiness that’s bogged you down.

Fantasies can be a great way to get you in the mood, and can also set the stage for depression relief!

Utilizing sex as a mood stabilizer isn’t risk free – you don’t want to become dependent on the orgasms that put you in a better mood, so like with all therapies, be cautious that you aren’t abusing it or sliding into addictive behavior. But so long as you don’t quit your job so you can stay home masturbating all day, this might be the secret to replacing all that Paxil with one or two well-loved sex toys. Personally, instead of filling a monthly prescription, I’d much rather replace my vibrator twice a year.
